South America
It is a continent of the Americas lying on the southern Western Hemisphere with a total area of 17,840,000 square kilometers or 6,890,000 square miles. The continent is bounded by Pacific Ocean on the west, Atlantic Ocean on the north and east whilst to the northwest it is bordered by Caribbean Sea and North America. South America is home to more than 371,090,000 populations as of 2005 estimation. It ranks fifth in population after Asia, Africa, Europe and North America. This fourth largest continent throughout the world is divided into three portions namely the South American cordillera, continental shield and interior lowlands.
The continent has 12 countries wherein Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and among others are the largest cities. South America boasts with some of the world’s finest creations and sceneries. It homes the highest waterfall in the world-- the Angel Falls situated in Venezuela and largest river by volume-- the Amazon River measuring between 6,259km/3,903mi and 6,712km/4,195mi long.
South America is where several and interesting unique species of animals and wildlife reside. It has been dubbed that South America is a continent of superlatives. Each region homes picturesque tourist attractions, heavenly beaches and wonderful havens. All illustrate a piece of paradise that everybody wants to frolic, enjoy and relax. Furthermore, few of the world’s fantastic festivities are celebrated in this continent such as Rio’s Carnival and Vendimia festival in Argentina.
